News From the Board
In the middle of January, we're asking ourselves, is it winter or fall? I, for one, welcome the milder weather that we're having. Hopefully, you agree. If you were wondering what all those trucks and people were doing in our neighborhood a couple of weeks ago, you're not alone. Just prior to Christmas, the Board was contacted by a site location team. They were looking at neighborhoods to shot a commercial for Mountain Dew. To be exact, they were looking for the perfect Cul-de-sac. It boiled down to two communities and 4 Cul-de-sacs. Before any decision was to be made we needed to discuss potential damage to the streets and common property, emergency vehicle access, advanced parking at the pool and how much it might inconvenience homeowners. They took out insurance to cover any damage to the streets, common property and any homeowner's property. When the discussions ended, the Director and Mountain Dew selected our neighborhood. The commercial was shot on the 10th in the morning and everyone was gone by that afternoon. The second half of the commercial was shot at a gas station off of Brawley School Road with Dale Jr. No, he was not here, just actors.
On a more serious note, we have been contacted by the town and post office about pickup and delivery problems. It seems that during garbage pickup days, we have people that park in front of or near garbage cans. We have no idea if this is the homeowner or neighbor. This makes it difficult for them to pick up garbage. The same goes for mail delivery. In the case of the post office, they’ll just by-pass the home. On those days it would be advisable to not park near the mailbox or where the garbage cans are placed. Also, we have received numerous complaints about people parking on the grass (illegal) and parking on curves (dangerous). We see parking like this all the time even when the driveway is empty. We do not want to be forced to ask the town to ban street parking, so just be mindful of where you park. Last but not least, we have noticed that many homes do not have their house number on their mailbox. If an emergency vehicle (Ambulance, Fire truck) needs to find you, lack of numbers can delay them.
The Board is currently requesting bids for various services that are needed, such as landscaping, irrigation and pool maintenance. We no longer have automatic renewals of contracts. This allows us to review the past years performance and consider other companies. Comments by our members are considered as well.
