News From the Board
As we enter the dog days of August, we look back at the summer season to see we've had a lot going on, due to the hard work of some of the committees, and the members who work on them. Please take the time to thank them. The easiest way is to drop a line on our website: www.linwood-farms-hoa.org. You can also visit our site to catch up on any late breaking news.
Two issues need to be addressed. The first is dues and late fees. Three years ago the payment dates were moved from January 1st and March 1st to March 1st and July 1st. This was to give everyone more time to recoup from the holidays and spread the 2 payments out a little further. Even though payment bills are mailed out, we give reminders of payments in our monthly newsletters and at the Annual Budget meeting and at the Regular Annual Meeting. The Bills and the reminders state when the payments are due and when, if not paid they become late. The cutoff dates are March 30th and July 31st. Any payment received after those dates are considered delinquent. Late payments are immediately charged with a late fee. Whether you pay your dues on time or not, expenses within the community continue and it makes it difficult when our residents do not pay, the late fee was established to recoup the expenses of trying to get our members to pay what is due. It cost us to send out payment reminders and these costs add up. By the time this newsletter comes out, hearings would have been convened and those who've not paid the second half of their dues will have their pool privileges suspended.
The second issue that we would like to talk about is Pool Inspections. Some people might have seen the inspection list published in the Mooresville Weekly. We received 4 demerits (a very low amount) and this has caused some undo concern. First of all, the inspections are done pre-season. It is normal for them to find something's wrong. County Codes change, the pool hasn't been completely cleaned, etc. Our demerits were for minor things. The Crape Myrtles near the fence had to be trimmed. Since the kiddie pool is emptied during the winter and not covered, debris collects so the skimmer inlets needed to be cleaned. The front gate fence needed to be fixed and more signs need to be hung. No health demerits were issued. Our water is tested by the pool company every day. During the day, the water is tested constantly by an automated system located in the pump room. Our pool passed full inspection and was allowed to open. Unless a child defecates in the pool and the pool has to close in order to shock it, our pool has never been closed for health reasons. Hopefully, this information has eased the concerns of the parents that emailed us.
Over the next few months, the Board will be meeting with the various committees to see what improvements we need around the community and to try to budget them for the coming year. Any positive suggestions are welcomed; you can email them to the Board and various committees at the website. Remember school will be starting soon, which means in the morning and afternoon; children will be at the bus stops, please drive responsibly.

FALL FEST PLANS ARE IN THE MAKING
The Social Committee is excited to announce that we are planning a Neighborhood Fall Fest tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 29th from 11AM-1PM. The Fall Fest has always been a fave for our community and with the help of a few new volunteers we are able to begin plans for a community-wide event. This event isn't just for the kids, we want kids of ALL ages to participate!
With Halloween only days away from this event, we are going to let you get some use out of those Halloween Costumes. So come dressed in your Halloween costumes. Adults, break out your costumes, too...there will be a Halloween Costume Contest (details to follow in October's newsletter).
Don't worry, we'll include some of our favorite events like the Cake Walk, Tatoos, a Chili Cook-Off Contest (so start looking for your boldest recipe out there), Pumpkin Rolling, and Pie-Eating Contest (makes for great pictures to embarrass your family on Facebook!). We're working on adding some new games that the whole family can participate in as well.
We will need volunteers to help run this event. So PLEASE consider signing up for a 30-minute time slot. It goes by fast, still allows you plenty of time to enjoy the event, and lets you meet your neighbors. We CAN'T do this event without you!
So mark your calendars for this event, we want everyone to come out and celebrate Fall! Hope to see you there!

Pool Committee
Residents, Please close umbrellas when you leave pool area. Recent evening storms have tossed over tables and broken a few new umbrellas. The Board and Pool Committee tries but can not be at the pool every night to close umbrellas and clean up.
The County recently did A 2nd Pool Inspection and overall the pool was fine. we received demerits for a bent gate, broken gate closer and chairs too close to the pool. The Damaged gate and closer have been repaired and replaced and the guilty party has been identified (our security video has been given to the Mooresville police as evidence) and the alleged vandal is being brought to justice.
"ONCE MORE" DO NOT LET ANYONE INTO THE POOL WITHOUT A POOL PASS OR WHOSE PASS DOES NOT WORK. THE POOL IS FOR THE USE OF RESIDENTS CURRENT ON THEIR HOA DUES.

Landscape Committee
As summer comes to a slow halt I can't stop and think on how the neighborhood has really come together! There are still projects that I would like to do to make our community look even nicer. I am hoping in the fall to get some of the bushes by the pool and front entrance replaced. If budget permitting and this can happen I would like to ask for some help planting them. If anyone has some perennials' that are getting overbearing and need some cleaning up, please think of us. I will be happy to come and dig them up and replant them in our community! On a much more important note, I would like to address the ongoing garbage that is constantly evading our entrances! Over the last couple of months there has been garbage continuously dumped on the outskirts of our entrances. There have been weeks that I have gone out there 3 times to pick up Bo-Jangles bags, MacDonald's, soda cans and liquor bottles. While not all of these are our neighbors that are doing this I strongly believe that a lot of this is coming from people that live in our own neighborhood. This is appalling and makes me very sad as well as angry. If you witness anyone throwing out any kind of trash PLEASE get their license plate number and let me know. It is a State Law that littering is prohibited.
Once again PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG! I MEAN CAN WE MAKE IT ANY EASIER FOR YOU?!
Thank you and as always feel free to contact me if there is anything I can help you with.

National Night Out
Another SUCCESSFUL year with 300+ in attendance. Would love to see more of our Linwood Farms families at this wonderful event. This is an event sponsored nationally by Target Superstores, to promote Drug Awareness and Crime Prevention. Mooresville P.D. has done a tremendous job in recruiting more than 30 vendor/service organizations to present ALTERNATIVES to Drug and Crime Abuse, as well as other family problems. We hope that we can continue to grow this annual event again for next year. Anyone interested in getting on board with the planning and executing of this great event, please contact - Bernice Scott - 704-664-2047. Thank you all for your participation and support.
